Lectures

  Information literacy is one of the essential skills for contemporary college students. Faced with an abundance of information resources, the ability to efficiently search for resources, gather information, discern the authenticity of information, and utilize various tools are all manifestations of information literacy. The library has subscribed to a wealth of print and electronic resources. To help the faculty and students of the university understand and utilize the library, and to enhance personal information literacy, the library offers various forms of information literacy training services tailored to different user groups.

Lecture Types
  • 1 Hour Thematic Lecture

    This program represents a branded initiative of the library's efforts to promote information literacy and science popularization. Approximately 20 training sessions on various themes are conducted annually, categorized into three series: Resource Exploration, Research Guidance, and Tool Software. The training covers a wide range of topics, including basic Office operations, database functionalities and search techniques, pre-research literature review, academic paper writing and standards, citation proof tutorials, basic patent knowledge and search utilization, reference management, and multidisciplinary resource search and utilization (e.g., economics, medicine, chemistry). The 1-Hour Thematic Training is held 2-4 times per month, each session lasting about one hour. Notifications about upcoming training sessions are sent out via the library's official website, WeChat public account, and internal communications.

  • College-specific Lecture

    According to the needs of the college, library instructors conduct training sessions within the college. These sessions primarily include orientations for new students, searching and utilizing subject-specific database resources, literature research before project initiation, and introductions to subject services. An application (Shenzhen University Library College-Specific Training Application Form) must be submitted at least 10 working days in advance, specifying the training content, time, location, and other details.

  • Specialized Database Lecture

    The library has invited professional lecturers specializing in academic databases to provide personalized and in-depth special training tailored for Shenzhen University. Beyond introducing the functionalities and search methods of the databases, the training focuses on showcasing academic resources, demonstrating practical techniques, and offering research guidance to support the learning and research endeavors of faculty and students across various disciplines.

  • Embedded in the classroom
      To better serve teaching and research, and to integrate the school's literature resources more effectively with teaching activities, the library offers embedded classroom training for faculty members. The training covers the introduction of Chinese and foreign electronic resources related to the course/discipline, database search techniques, and can be customized to include course assignments, classroom discussions, and final papers. The aim is to help students quickly master subject literature resources, complete course assignments smoothly, and enhance information literacy. Faculty members should submit an application (Shenzhen University Library Embedded Classroom Training Application Form) at least 10 working days in advance and allocate 1-2 class hours for the library within the professional course. Specific content, time, and location of the training can be discussed with the library staff.
